David B. Hunt

President & CEO

David Hunt is one of the nation’s leading experts on cultural competence in healthcare and diversity-related issues in law and business. Prior to entering the diversity field, David worked for national public policy think-tanks on health policy matters and practiced law as an employment law and civil rights attorney. After serving as Vice President and General Counsel for a leading diversity training company, David founded Critical Measures in 2001 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Rider Bennett law firm. Critical Measures became privately owned and operated in 2004 and since then has developed a national reputation for excellence and cutting edge strategic advice on diversity-related matters in law, business and medicine.

A sought-after national speaker on issues of racial and ethnic disparities in health care and the legal aspects of providing culturally and linguistically appropriate care, David recently published a chapter on The Law of Language Access in Immigrant Medicine, the first international medical textbook on refugee medicine. Together with physician partners from the Harvard Medical School, David helped create, market and sell the nation’s first e-learning program on cross-cultural medicine. (This product has since become the nation’s leading software program for training doctors and nurses on cultural competence in health care.) More recently, David created a new e-learning program on The Law of Language Access in healthcare to assist physicians, hospitals and health plans to comply with federal and state language access laws.

Over the last ten years, David has worked with leading American corporations such as Microsoft, Prudential and the Kohler Company on diversity matters. He helped Critical Measures land an exclusive long-term national contract to provide diversity training for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and its member institutions. David has also worked with leading law firms, the Minnesota Supreme Court, the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office and the Minnesota State Bar Association to provide training programs for attorneys on diversity and the elimination of bias in the legal system.

A writer, speaker and current events commentator, David has appeared on the McNeill-Lehrer News Hour and published numerous articles. He received his B.A. from Carleton College and his J.D. from the William Mitchell College of Law.
